WHITNEY Houston is one of the best-selling musicians the world has ever seen, after producing ballads that saw her rise through the charts.

The American singer was cited as the most awarded female act of all-time – but how did she die and what else do we know about the legend?

When and how did Whitney Houston die?

Houston was found unconscious in a suite at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 11, 2012.

She was submerged in the bathtub when she was found.

Medics arrived and found the singer unresponsive and she was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Houston’s cause of death was reported as drowning and the “effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use”.

Cocaine was thought to have been used shortly before her death – and a number of other drugs were found in her system.

The 48-year-old’s death was listed as an “accident”.

The 10th anniversary of her passing will be on February 11, 2022.

Who went to Whitney Houston’s funeral?

An invitation-only memorial service was held for Houston on February 18, 2012.

The service was scheduled for two hours but ended up lasting four.

Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, and R. Kelly performed for the high-profile mourners.

The 1,500 mourners included Oprah Winfrey, David Bowie, Elton John, and Beyoncé.

Bobby Brown, Houston’s ex-husband, attended the funeral but left before the service began.

Recently, BET released the two-parter The Bobby Brown Story, which includes intimate details of Whitney’s life with the R&B musician.

What are Whitney Houston’s most famous songs?

Houston was called The Voice in reference to her legendary talent.

She sang hugely famous songs such as I Will Always Love You, How Will I Know, I Wanna Dance with Somebody and I Have Nothing.

She was third in MTV’s list of 22 Greatest Voices, and sixth on Online Magazine COVE’s list of the 100 Best Pop Vocalists with a score of 48.5/50.

What are the Whitney Houston sexual abuse allegations?

On May 17, 2018 a documentary premiered at Cannes Film Festival which saw friends of the late singer Whitney Houston allege the singer was molested as a child by her cousin Dee Dee Warwick.

In the movie, Whitney’s longtime assistant Mary Jones tells filmmaker Kevin Macdonald that the late singer told her that Dee Dee molested her at a young age.

Whitney’s brother Gary also says he was molested as a child by a female family member.

The allegations were made in the documentary Whitney, which was made with the cooperation of her family.

What happened to Whitney’s daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown?

Bobbi Kristina Brown was the daughter of Bobby Brown and Houston and was just 14 when her parents divorced, with Houston gaining custody of her.

When Houston died in February 2012, Brown was named as the sole beneficiary of her mother’s estate.

But Bobbi caused controversy when she announced her engagement to Nick Gordon – a man she previously considered her big brother.

She died from lobar pneumonia on July 26, 2015, after being in a coma for several months.

Gordon and a friend had found her face down in a bathtub in her Georgia home.

There was no evidence of drugs or alcohol and Brown was alive and breathing after being rushed to hospital.

She died in hospice care on July 26, 2015, aged 22.
