Andrea Bocelli sings ‘Silent Night’ in an empty cave

In a haunting solo performance, star tenor Andrea Bocelli transformed an empty, icicled cave into a concert stage.

Surrounded by the stalactites and stalagmites of Italy’s Frasassi Caves, Bocelli delivered an exquisite rendition of ‘Silent Night’.

This remarkable performance was part of his online concert, ‘Silent Night: A Christmas Prayer,’ which was streamed on Facebook Live on Friday, December 18.

Bocelli’s intimate and unique Christmas concert also featured a beautiful rendition of ‘White Christmas’ with piano accompaniment. Additionally, he performed the Italian Christmas carol ‘Caro Gesù Bambino’ and songs ‘Pianissimo’ and ‘Dolce Sentire’ from his new album, Believe.

Dressed in full black tie attire, the tenor serenaded his virtual audience a cappella, adding his signature Bocelli magic to the Christmas classics with occasional key changes that showcased his spine-tingling upper range.

The sound of his solo vocals resonating through the empty, echoing cave was deeply moving, especially as many people around the world remain isolated or unable to be with their families.

During the stream, Bocelli paused his singing to recite a poem, while guest artist Brittany O’Connor performed a dance through the caves.

The poem, translated from Italian, begins: “Man! How small you are in the presence of Him who wanted you to be made for the light.”
