A few years ago, singing original numbers was unheard of. Now, singer-songwriters are coming into X Factor auditions ready to show off both their skills. 27-year-old Aidan Martin was one such contestant, and his original song blew the judges away.

Aidan’s audition is flawless. He has a beautiful voice, great presence, and a likable personality… but it’s the emotion behind the song’s powerful lyrics that will have us remembering this video for a long, long time. See, Aidan wrote the song after a breakup.
“It was kind of like a mutual agreement, but it was still heartbreaking,” he starts to say. But after a little pressing from Simon, he admits he got dumped. While he says he’d never get back together with his ex, he does have a message he’d like to share:
“I’m not a joke.”
