Reba McEntire is usually one of the people on “The Voice” who watches others perform but, this week, she took to the stage with a new song. The song, called “Seven Minutes in Heaven,” is just one from her latest album, “Not That Fancy.” It’s no wonder, though, why she chose to perform this one in particular — it’s all about her late mother, Jacqueline Smith, who passed away in 2020.

McEntire uses this new song to take listeners on a journey with her as she imagines what it might be like to visit her mom in heaven, even just for seven minutes. Large screens display imagery of fall leaves, and fog beautifully takes over the stage, perfectly setting the scene that Reba imagines.

In the song, McEntire pictures passing by famous folks who have already passed but, instead of taking the time to talk to them, she heads straight for her mom. In fact, she even shares that, if given the chance, she’d pass on the chance to ask God questions.

“I wouldn’t spend all my seconds asking God questions ’cause He knows I’d be back soon,” Reba sang. “If I had seven minutes in Heaven, I’d spend them all with you.”

As this moving performance ends, a black and white photo of McEntire’s mom appears on screen, prompting her to say, “Oh, I miss you, Mama.”

McEntire’s fellow coaches proudly look on and cheer, clearly emotional for their co-worker and friend. The audience also erupts in applause. What a beautiful tribute to her mom!
