Sydnie Christmas is the gift that keeps on giving on this year’s Britain’s Got Talent. She put in a spinetingling performance of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” which many are now saying is the greatest cover of this classic song.

Her vocal power left the judges and audience in tears having nailed the big notes and changing up some of the lyrics – breathing fresh life into this classic hit. Her “My Way” performance instantly went viral when it was uploaded to the internet, hitting half a million views in the first hours – she has defiantly become a fan favourite! Watch the video below.

Sydnie Christmas took to the stage of Britain’s Got Talent 2024 as an average Kent girl with a bold and charming attitude like a Catherine Tate Show character. Her pre-performance chat with star judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and Bruno Tonioli revealed a sparkling personality packed with humour and a dream for a professional singing career on the stage of London’s West End.

Sydnie was 28 when she auditioned on BGT’s 17th season and, to the judges’ surprise, claimed she hadn’t sung her audition song since she was about four. This song choice turned Simon’s face sour. Amanda revealed he had always disliked the song “Tomorrow”, taken from the 1980s musical, Annie, leaving the judges and audience on the edge of their seats. But beneath Sydnie’s bubbly personality blossomed a soulful voice like no other, detailed with emotional crescendos and awe.

Her song began timidly yet enchantingly, moving her family in the audience to tears almost instantly, before flourishing with breathtaking power and control. Her jazzy piano track inspired the originality of her rendition, modernized from the 80s original yet embodying the pure, heartfelt magic of musical theatre. Her voice was impeccable; Simon Cowell looked over to his fellow judges, smiling in shock while Alesha seemed transfixed, and Amanda smitten.

After Sydie’s final note faded out, Alesha, Amanda and Bruno gave instant standing ovations alongside the vast audience, before Simon shocked even himself when he rose to clap for the song he notoriously despised. He even told the emotional singer after her performance, “I used to hate that song, and now I absolutely love it. Good for you, that was absolutely brilliant.”

With A-grade comments from all four judges, Amanda was clearly mesmerised beyond belief, awarding Sydnie Christmas the Golden Buzzer and sending her straight through to the live shows.

Born in Kent and now living in London, Sydnie has worked a host of jobs to make ends meet whilst awaiting her big West End break. She’s worked at a gym, as a performer on cruise ships, and as a cleaner, all while posting original songs and covers on YouTube. Her dream break as a world-class stage singer seems imminent — her audition has already gained over 2 million views within the first 2 days of it being uploaded to YouTube. This is an incredible feat of talent from a singer destined to make it all the way to the show’s finale and likely far beyond.
