An unbelievably poignant and moving video has gone viral on Facebook. It shows 92-year-old Howard Serena serenading his wife of 73 years, Laura. Laura is in bed in a hospice suffering from dementia in the video. Sadly, Laura is dying, so their granddaughter Erin wanted to capture this beautiful moment. Laura has macular degeneration, so she can only tell the difference between light and dark.

Howard is almost deaf, so this beautiful moment where they are able to touch each other is one of the most heart-warming moments any of us is ever likely to see. It’s impossible to watch this video without tears pricking at your eyes.

Howard sings “You’ll Never Know”, a beautiful ballad made famous by Harry James and Rosemary Clooney. While he is singing, Harry gently strokes and caresses Laura’s face. Laura looks up at Howard and mouths the words as the love of her life sings to her. The love they have shared over the last seven decades shines through in their expressions.

In a world where divorce is common, many of us can’t imagine being married for 20 years, but 70 years proves true love really does exist. The couple also expressed their love by having a big family.

They have nine children and 18 grandchildren, including Erin, who recorded the video. She shared more about what makes this song so very special for her grandparents:

“Howard is singing to her their love song, the song that comforted her when he went away to fight in World War II.” Erin continues, “In fact, after fifty years of marriage, they renewed their vows and performed this song as a duet for the entire family at the reception.”

Since this beautiful and tear-jerking video was uploaded, it has been viewed almost 23 million times. In an ever-changing world, the permanence and strength of Howard and Laura’s love seem to have touched the hearts of the whole world. Since the video was posted, Erin posted an update that this lovely couple had passed away:

“Eight months after this video was recorded Grandpa was actually the one to pass first. On May 15, 2016 Howard closed his eyes for the last time. Grandma (Laura Virginia) held on just five more days until she followed her love home on May 20, 2016.

She was surrounded by members of our family who were singing her favorite hymn “How Great Thou Art” when she took her last breath. They both passed peacefully at home. They were laid to rest side by side on July 22, 2016 in Sarasota, FL.” After all their years together, it’s beautiful that they will rest together in eternity.
