With his feet barely dangling over the stool, you could be forgiven for thinking little Alberto Cartuccia Cingolani was about to play a little beginners tune when he sat down at the Yamaha grand piano in front of him.

Instead, the 5-year-old gave a mesmerising performance of Mozart’s famous Sonata in C, K. 545 Allegro in front of a delighted audience at the opening of the 10th International Musical Competition, ‘Città di Penne’, in Italy. The video was first posted back in May on both Facebook and Twitter, but it has since gone viral again.

The youngster, dressed in his little jeans and bow tie, made it look incredibly easy – at times not even looking at his hands on the keys as he bounced his way through the piece.

Alberto’s mother, Alessia, told the regional Italian newspaper, Corriere Adriatico, “He started playing during the months of the first lockdown. I was always at home, so we started playing with a small keyboard, in order to do something stimulating. From there I realised that Alberto was well suited. My husband and I noticed that he had perfect pitch. For a year and a half now, he has been doing remarkable things, both for his age and for the time it took him to learn.

Even though he still doesn’t know how to read notes well, indeed almost not at all, he takes his position on the keyboard and repeats the pieces. He is very instinctive.” [Italian translation]

This youngster certainly has the potential of a successful and long career ahead of him. Hopefully we will see him again soon!
