Although many new musicians choose to cover known songs, few make it big with their renditions. Thankfully, this wasn’t the case for the Mexican rock band, The Warning, who in 2014 gave us an incredible version of Metallica’s 1991 hit, “Enter Sandman”.

The rock power trio were sisters, Daniela ‘Dany’ (on guitar, lead vocals and piano at age 14), Paulina ‘Pau’ (on drums, lead vocals and piano at age 12) and Alejandra ‘Ale’ (on bass guitar, piano and backing vocals at age 9). And they were an instant hit with their YouTube uploads.

Their recording went viral with more than 23 million views to date. And it was spotted by Metallica’s guitarist, Kirk Hammett, who had particular admiration for the drummer. They made such an impression that 7 years later, the girls were asked to join Canadian Grammy winner, Alessia Cara, to re-record the song as part of “The Metallica Blacklist” 2021 tribute album.

Following The Warning’s 2014 leap to fame, they decided to bring out their own music. Their first six-song EP album “Escape the Mind” was released on 14th April 2015 and included the titles “Take Me Down” and “Fade Away”. During the album’s production, the sisters met award-winning producer, Jake Carmona, who contributed to not only “Escape the Mind”, but also a further 3 albums.

And the dreams didn’t stop there. The girls wanted to attend a five-week summer course at Berklee College of Music. With the help from a GoFundMe campaign, as well as donations from the Target Corporation and DeGeneres (The Ellen DeGeneres Show after appearing on the show), they made it happen.

They also featured in the video game “Rock Band” after the game developers, Harmonix Music Systems, discovered the impact their game had made on the girl’s early music career. The offers to play gigs also started rolling in around this time, with performances at the Musak Festival (California, USA), TEDx Talks 2016 (Reno, USA) and SxSW Music Fest 2016 (Austin, USA) but to name a few.

Unsurprisingly, producers and record companies were keen to sign the sisters, but with them all wanting control over the music and style, The Warning stepped away and instead, went independent.

One year later and they released a 13-song debut album, entitled “XXI CENTURY BLOOD”, which Rocktopia called “Simply astonishing!” The band continued touring to promote the album and performed at some big festivals, including the Mother Of All Rock Festival. They played alongside big names such as Alice Cooper, Vince Neil, Buckcherry and Def Leppard, for whom the girls were invited to as the official support band during their 2017 Mexican tour.

2018 saw The Warning’s next album, entitled “QUEEN OF THE MURDER SCENE” which the girls called a journey through the mind of a young woman. It includes tales of unrequited love, schizophrenia, violence and even murder.

And after such a huge success as an independent band, they finally found a business partner who understood what they were about. Jason Flom, head of Lava Records (an American record label in partnership with Universal Music Group) signed a 5 record deal with the sisters. The Warning’s latest album, “ERROR” was released in June 2022. And tours are ongoing for the girls, with Houston, New Orleans and London on the cards this year.
