John Legend spiced up Starbucks’ customers’ Valentine’s Day by turning up in-store and serenading them. The R&B legend made the appearance as part of his guest hosting gig on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and he also showed himself to be quite the comedian as the segment had plenty of belly laughs.

Legend started his stint as a Starbucks barista by chatting up a pair of customers and then launching into a very special version of his song “Conversations in the Dark”. Instead of the original romantic lyrics, he sang a whimsical version that talked about “conversations at Starbucks” as a violinist accompanied him. This impromptu performance had customers dropping their jaws just about to the floor in surprise. You can watch the segment below, which has attracted 2.6 million views.

Next up, Legend moonlit as a barista behind the counter and took customers’ orders. He serenaded two women with his US number one hit “All of You” and they were just eating it up. In keeping with the established theme, Legend sang about “caramel frappuccinos” as the staff clicked their fingers to keep the beat.

Things took an even loopier turn next as Legend walked around the store giving customers massive shots of whipped cream, even pouring the cream onto one man’s table and into his waiting hand. Talk about a sticky situation! The singer was not done yet, as next up he brought a keyboard behind the counter and sang Nat King Cole’s “L-O-V-E”. Legend has a habit of serenading fans, as he also sang for one lucky lady on the Ellen Show the year before and made up custom lyrics just for her.

Legend’s performance of “L-O-V-E” was accompanied by the same violinist who appeared earlier, and it brought down the house, with the entire store cheering after the star finished the song. The song was the longest performance in the segment, and it was the only song where Legend kept the original lyrics. Perhaps the star prefers only to mess with the lyrics of his own songs.
