Gearing up for a new season of NBC’s The Voice, the season 25 coaches, Dan + Shay, Reba McEntire, John Legend, and Chance the Rapper, teamed up for a cover of Jackie DeShannon’s “Put a Little Love In Your Heart.”

An All-Star Performance

For the all-star performance, Chance the Rapper kicked things off with the first verse. Reba then joined in before Dan + Shay chimed in with their beloved harmonies. John Legend rounds it out with his soaring vocals.

The coaches were all smiles as they were joined by a gospel choir, adding an ethereal touch to the performance.

Sporting all-white and beige ensembles, the coaches and the choir finished out the song in harmony, reminding viewers to be the good they hope to see in the world.

“Take a good look around/ And if you’re looking down/ Put a little love in your heart/ I hope when you decide/ Kindness will be your guide/ Put a little love in your heart,” they sang.

“Put A Little Love in Your Heart” was written by Jackie DeShannon, Jimmy Holiday, and Rany Myers and was originally performed by DeShannon in 1969. This became the most successful chart performance of her career, landing at No.4 on the Hot 100 and No.2 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

In 1988, the song was rerecorded by Annie Lennox and Al Green and was used as the theme song to the movie Scrooged. It was a chart success at this time as well, becoming a No.9 hit on the Hot 100 and reaching No.2 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

“It was actually written very fast,” DeShannon shared of writing the song while chatting with Speaking Freely. “It’s just one of those things that was meant to be and happened. My mom was always saying things like, ‘They oughta put a little love in their hearts.’ I think it stuck somewhere in the back of my mind.”
