While Mike Yung was recording a cover video of Sheeran’s latest song, “Eyes Closed,” at the Church Avenue subway station in Brooklyn on a Monday, little did he know that the 32-year-old Ed Sheeran himself would pleasantly surprise him during the shoot. Mike made it through to the semi-finals of America’s Got Talent where he sang an Ed Sheeran song, “Thinking Out Loud”. So having his moment to sing with one of his favourite artists in the subway where he made his career, is the stuff of dreams. Watch their duet of “Eyes Closed” below.

In addition to the unexpected encounter, Sheeran pleasantly astonished Yung by gifting him tickets to his live performance at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn. During the show, Sheeran treated the audience to a complete rendition of his latest album, “Subtract,” marking its first-ever full performance in America.

At the age of 62, Yung achieved viral fame in 2016 through a captivating video of him singing The Righteous Brothers’ classic, “Unchained Melody,” in a subway station in New York City. The performance of “Unchained Melody” now has over 14M views on YouTube and continues to be one of the best subway performances.

In 2020, Mike introduced his inaugural album, titled “I Will Never Give Up.” Prior to this, he made his post-“America’s Got Talent” debut with a single named “Alright,” which was released on January 12th, 2018. Taking matters into his own hands, Mike initiated a Kickstarter campaign in March 2018 to finance the recording of his personal album. By October 2018, he successfully gathered $90,000 through the campaign, which proved sufficient to record an EP.
