During a Japanese traditional street music performance, a young toddler decides to join in with the festivities. To the entertainment of everyone there that day, the little one dances over to the band that are playing with extreme confidence and style.
The Awa Dance Festival
This dance festival is known as “Awa Odori”. It takes place between the 12th and 15th of August during the Obon Festival in Tokushima Prefecture on Shikoku in Japan. It is the largest and most popular dance festival in Japan and sees over 1.3 million tourists come to join in with the festivities every year.
Groups of dancers and musicians dressed in traditional Japanese uniform take to the streets to perform. The performers are kwown as “REN” and they are accompanied by taiko drums, shamisen lute, shinobue flute, and the kane bell.
Awa is the old feudal administration name for Tokushima Prefecture, and odori means “dance”.
