In 2015, the Grammy’s paid tribute to Stevie Wonder with one of the most electric displays of talent basically ever. Yeah, it really was that good. Seeing as it was carried out by Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, and Gary Clark Jr., how could it not be?
In the video below, Queen Bey struts down the center aisle of a grandiose venue and says to the crowd, “If you love Stevie Wonder like I love Stevie Wonder, I want you to stand up on your feet.”The crowd obliges, with some of the biggest names in music (Pharrell, Ariana Grande, John Legend, etc.) rising to their feet and clapping their hands.
Beyonce passes Stevie himself, whose giant smile says it all. Then the show really begins.
Beyonce opens with a call and response rendition of “Fingertips,”which, according to Billboard, was Wonder’s first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
After slaying the song with her backup dancers, Beyonce calls Ed Sheeran up onto the stage to join in on “Master Blaster”before inviting Gary Clark Jr. to finish off the performance with “Higher Ground.”(The crowd went wild for Ed and Gary’s insane guitar duet!)
Throughout the entire show, the crowd is up on their feet and can’t help but to jam along to the perfectly executed mash-up. It’s a feel-good tribute fit for a true sonic King.
