She delivered the heartfelt lyrics with a similar emotion to Jelly Roll’s 2020 recording. The crowd was moved, and when Kelly finished, cheers erupted.

Though Jelly Roll wasn’t present for the live performance, he later watched a recording and expressed his gratitude on Twitter.

He was touched that someone as legendary as Kelly Clarkson covered his work.

“I would’ve never believed you if you would’ve told me that I’d write a song so impactful that incredible Kelly Clarkson would deem it worthy to cover,” Jelly Roll wrote on Twitter. “Thank you Kelly—wow—I’m honored in a way I can’t even [describe]—I cried watching it.”

Jelly Roll also left a heartfelt comment on Kelly’s Save Me YouTube video, stating, “This may be the most honored I’ve ever felt. I love Kelly and her voice and soul and what she stands for so much. I’m honored she covered my song – I cried listening the first time.”

For Jelly Roll, this honor is particularly meaningful. Despite gaining fame for his songwriting and unique take on country music, “Save Me” holds personal significance.

Co-written with David Ray, the lyrics reflect his troubled past and the role music played in overcoming it.

In 2023, Jelly Roll elaborated on the song’s meaning after re-recording it as a duet with Lainey Wilson. He emphasized the personal connection, stating:

“‘Save Me’ was special, like, to me. But I don’t fully grasp as an artist that sometimes songs mean so much to us. It’s more about the actual art. This is my story. This is my most vulnerable, broken moment ever.”

To no surprise, Kelly Clarkson’s heartwarming cover of the song already amassed over a million views on YouTube alone.
