However, when she began working on a new album, Rogers graciously allowed her to record the song herself. Initially, McEntire asked Gill to sing harmony, but her co-producer saw the potential for a full duet, leading to Gill taking on a couple of verses.

The song’s lyrics tell a compelling story of two people struggling to hide their love for each other, with lines like “seeing you across the room tonight/Just gives me away.” In February 1994, McEntire and Gill performed their hit duet at the Hot Country Jam, captivating the audience with their chemistry.
