With input from the audience and the National Symphony Orchestra, Folds received a unique song brief: to compose an upbeat tune in A minor incorporating the phrase “These new spaces are all designed to be flexible” from the event’s program. The result was a testament to Folds’ comedic prowess and musical knowledge as he directed the orchestra, delivering witty instructions and creating an entertaining and surprisingly beautiful composition, titled “Fragile.”
