Children’s choir PS22 Chorus sang a heartwarming version of Martina McBride’s “I’m Gonna Love You Through It” for their teacher Mrs. Adriana Lopez, who was battling breast cancer. The group is made up of 60 schoolchildren who sang together so beautifully to a piano accompaniment.
PS22 Chorus is directed by Gregg Breinberg and the elementary school choir is based in Graniteville, New York City. The group’s song might have just done the trick as in a later upload on the PS22 Chorus channel, they shared a photo of Mrs. Lopez with a big smile on her face and stated she had beaten her cancer.
Martina McBride’s “I’m Gonna Love You Through It” is a very fitting choice for the occasion, as the country tune is about a 38-year-old woman who battles breast cancer with the support of her husband. The lyrics of the song were inspired by co-writer Sonya Isaacs’ mother, who survived her brush with breast cancer. Listen to the McBride version below.
The video of PS22 Chorus’s performance got a stellar reception online, with viewers adding supportive comments such as “I love how they’re all so into it, you can tell how much these students love their teacher. She is so lucky to have that choir just as they’re all so lucky to have her,” and “I’ve watched this so many times and I can never make it through without crying. Such great kids.”
The video of “I’m Gonna Love You Through It” is not the only time the PS22 Chorus has come to public attention, as the award-winning group has performed with a range of big name acts including Kary Perry, Carrie Underwood and Fifth Harmony. They also sang a memorable version of “Over the Rainbow” to close the 83rd Academy Awards. If you would like to see more from PS22 Chorus, you can subscribe to their YouTube channel.
