A Timeless Celebration Of Glen Campbell’s Ghost On The Canvas Album

Approaching the tenth anniversary of Glen Campbell’s Ghost on the Canvas album, Surfdog Records’ Dave Kaplan aimed to commemorate the milestone. Inspired by Natalie Cole’s successful duet album with her late father, Kaplan envisioned a unique twist for Campbell’s work. Imagining a collaboration of music icons across genres, he sought to breathe new life into the album, creating a timeless celebration of Campbell’s legacy.

Upon solidifying the concept, Kaplan contacted Julian Raymond, the producer of Ghost on the Canvas, to spearhead the new project. Raymond confessed to having initial doubts. He reflected, “At first, I thought it was a bit unusual to do duets with someone who was no longer with us.”

Raymond expressed concerns about maintaining the quality and preserving Campbell’s legacy. He admitted, “I want to keep Glen’s legacy alive with something with quality. So I was a little worried about it and how it would be perceived.”

Raymond’s concerns were put to rest with his first call, as Elton John showed immediate enthusiasm about contributing his voice to “I’m Not Gonna Miss You.”

His Journey Of Legacy And Resilience

In 2011, the announcement of Campbell’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis sent shockwaves worldwide. Accompanying this revelation was the release of his Ghost On The Canvas album and the initiation of his Goodbye Tour.

Despite succumbing to the disease in 2017, Campbell left an enduring legacy, complemented by the uplifting documentary Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me. The film chronicles Campbell and his family’s resilience as they navigated the challenges during his poignant farewell tour across the globe.
