“I loved your performance,” Legend told him. “Is this what your goal is, to make country music?”

A Country Artist Through and Through

With a smile on his face, Lewis responded, “Yes sir. I am a country artist. I’ve been doing this for about seven years now.”

While first-time coaches Dan + Shay did not turn their double chair for the contestant, Dan Smyers took a moment to praise Lewis’ performance.

“I love your voice, man,” Smyers complimented. “Those runs towards the end of the song? Incredible! That’s a great song choice for you. Are you a big Keith Urban fan?”

Lewis revealed that he’s actually a “huge fan” of Dan + Shay. Luckily, he had no hard feelings over the fact that the duo didn’t try to recruit him for their team.

“It’s okay, it’s okay,” he told them.

Shay Mooney felt the need to explain, “Reba had turned around and I got really scared, to be honest with you…You’re a phenomenal talent. You’re clearly a seasoned veteran. I loved your voice, man, and this is a pretty clear winner on who you should choose, in my opinion. You got the Queen of Country music over there. I didn’t want to stand in the way.”

While Dan + Shay encouraged Tae Lewis to find a place among Team Reba, Chance the Rapper had a different idea.

“It could be really cool to see what direction John takes your arrangements in. He could kind of pull out a lot of soul and I think you guys collaborating could just make for some fire performances on the show,” he pointed out.

Legend urged him to “ignore these country coaches” and attempted to convince him to join his team.

“Your voice is so electric. You just look like you belong on the stage singing the music that you’re singing. I took a country artist to the lives with me because she didn’t have to compete with the three, four, five, whatever country artists that are going to be on Reba’s team. The lane is clear for you, my friend,” he told him.

Team Reba

Reba finally had her chance to speak. She told him, “I’ve been in the business a very long time. Yes, and I could help you, whether it’s vocal or it’s your staging. I would love to have you on my team. We’d have a blast!”

As the audience chanted, “Reba, Reba, Reba,” Tae Lewis made his decision and ultimately joined the country music icon’s team.

She awarded him with Reba’s Chicken Tenders to celebrate.

Tae Lewis is the first artist to join Team Reba for Season 25.

He Promised To Make “Momma Reba” Proud

“TEAM REBA BABY❗️❗️❗️ I’m so glad Momma @reba turned for me. I’m gonna make her so proud,” he shared on social media.

The Voice returns to NBC with another round of blind auditions next Monday and Tuesday at 8/7c.
