The Voice van Vlaanderen is a reality singing competition in Belgium tailored for the Flemish region.

Originating from the franchise that commenced in the Netherlands as The Voice of Holland, the show debuted on November 25, 2011, on VTM, shortly preceding the launch of the French-speaking Belgian version, The Voice Belgique.

The program has completed 10 seasons.

Four coaches, themselves esteemed performing artists, nurture and occasionally perform alongside the talents in their respective groups.

The talents are selected through blind auditions, during which the coaches can only hear the auditioner’s performance without seeing them.

The triumph of The Voice van Vlaanderen has paved the way for the creation of spin-off shows based on its concept, namely The Voice Kids and The Voice Senior.

Koen Wauters, Natalie and Bart Peeters are back as coaches and are again joined by Alex Callier.

It’s that same format we’ve all gotten familiar with.

At the time, sixteen-year-old Luka Cruysberghs was one of the youngest candidates of the Voice.

Here, she puts her own twist on ‘Sweet Dreams’ by Marilyn Manson.

The very same song from the British new wave music duo Eurythmics.

Released in January 1983, it served as the fourth and last single from their second album, “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).”

But that was a very upbeat song after Annie Lennox and David Stewart became interested in electronic music and bought new synthesizers to play around with.

That iconic intro with the synthesizers playing along to the beat is very catchy.

And then Marilyn Manson unveiled his rendition of the same track, influenced by the concept that originated during his initial experience with LSD, as detailed in his autobiography, “The Long Hard Road Out of Hell.”

He recounts that during his hallucination, he envisioned a more deliberate and sinister interpretation of the dance-oriented hit, sung in his own distinctive voice.

It’s that style that Luka tries to emulate for her audition.

Safe to say she’s a rocker. Even her look screams the same.

And she was just sixteen here!

Luka starts slow, with the coaches and the audience watching intently waiting to see what else she had in store for them.

It’s a rock version so the intensity increases, her energy working to unleash her voice, a deeper sound perfect for what she was going for.

During this audition, she wowed all four judges with her singing.

And all four of them eventually spun around to face her.

Luka chose to be on Alex Callier’s team and later won the fifth season of The Voice van Vlaanderen.

In April 2018, she became the new singer for the Belgian rock band Hooverphonic, whose mentor was Alex Callier from The Voice.

Luka started a solo career and released her first single “Not Too Late” on August 27, 2021.

Not really that surprising after seeing her perform like this at a young age.
