The battle round results will be revealed on Tuesday night’s episode, airing at 8 p.m. ET on NBC
Niall Horan is in a predicament.
In a video clip shared exclusively with PEOPLE from Tuesday night’s episode of The Voice, contestants Nini Iris and Sophia Hoffman put on a stunning battle round performance of “Heart of Glass.”
In the battle rounds, two contestants on the same team are pitted against each other and their coach — in this case Horan — determines who sang the song best.
After the performance, each coach offered up some feedback for the contestants.
“You know what I loved about that? I know you’re battling but it didn’t feel at all like a battle it just felt like two girls being like…. this is so fun. Nini, you’re so incredible and how you can do those runs so precise is amazing,” coach Gwen Stefani, 54, says.
She adds, “It was blowing my mind. And Sophia you’re 18? It’s like, ‘What?’ You have such a rich sound and tone to your voice it’s so pretty and so different. This is a really hard decision.”
Meanwhile, fellow coach John Legend enjoyed their stage presence paired with their vocals.
“This is so fun to watch. Both of you are in your element and you look like stars up there. Sometimes people come out like that and put so much intention on the stage performance that they forget they’re here to sing too. But you all did not forget you were here to sing,” he says.
Fellow coach Reba McEntire adds, “I certainly enjoyed it. Your singing abilities are excellent. Your confidence onstage was so cool, so smart and I thought you looked like you were having fun also. Sophia you’ve got a great future ahead of you onstage I know you do but I’m gonna pick Nini for this one today. Good luck to you both.”
Then, host Carson Daly called on Horan, 30, to make his decision on who will proceed in the competition.
“Oh ladies I am so proud of you both. That was incredible. You sung the roof off this place. Sophia, the perseverance you showed to come back here again is just mind boggling,” he says of Hoffman, who auditioned for season 23. “Nini, super performance. Every time you step up here it’s just mesmerizing. So, it’s just incredible.”
“But I’m really hoping that someone comes up with a steal here. I think when you struggle with an answer for that question you just have to go with your gut,” he adds, before the video is cut off.
Find out who will stay in the competition on Tuesday night’s episode of The Voice, airing at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
The battle rounds began on Oct. 17. Ephraim Owens and Jackson Snelling were sent home while Deejay Young, Jordan Rainer, Lennon VanderDoes and Tanner Massey advanced to the next round.
